Christians And Conservatives Need To Urge Peace In The Aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s Murder
Millions of us are mourning in the aftermath, just days after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This was a man who engaged with students on college campuses, treating his political and ideological opponents with dignity and respect.
For this, he was called hateful, but if you watch Kirk’s exchanges with his opponents, it is clear that Kirk was not the one expressing hate.
While many Democrat lawmakers openly called for violence against Conservatives, men like Kirk called for the right for individuals to be allowed to carry firearms, to protect themselves or other individuals, if and when someone else initiated violence, especially the government.
While Maxine Waters acted as a Haman, calling for her followers to “harass” her opponents, Kirk acted as a Mordecai, advocating for the right of individual citizens to protect themselves if attacked.
In this aftermath, many on the Left have once again brought up January 6th as evidence of right-wing violence… yet the only person killed on January 6th was a Trump Supporter by Capitol police.
So how do we respond?
In this moment, Christians and Conservatives must act as men and women of peace.
Protect yourself, and other selves, if a bad actor initiates physical violence, and be prepared to do so, but if someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.
A slap or an insult, met with dignity and respect, will only show our opponents for who they are to all in attendance, and show us for who we are.
When my cousins accuse me of hating women for opposing the murder of babies, I can act with love.
When I am accused of being a “Fascist” for calling for low taxes, I can respond that the government is here to protect individuals from the thief, not to act as the agent of the thief.
The government is here to protect the rights of the individual, not to steal Naboth’s vineyard.
When I am accused of “hating” trans people, I can respond that mutilating a little boy who is confused about his emerging sexual feelings is not love. And I will not help demons pretend they think it is.
Supporting fatherhood is Biblical. It is not racism.
Telling people about Jesus is love. Withholding the good news, the most important message in this history of humanity is not love.
Giving children to sexually confused men is not love. Protecting children is.
Free speech is not fascism.
Truth is not racism.
Love is not hate.
One-night stands are not love.
Let our response in love be the end of Leftism as a mainline or respectable movement in America. When the Left spits on us and accuses us of hate, love our enemies, and pray for those who persecute us.
